Dog Lovers Bite Back — What’s Your Mission?

Last night my wife and I got into it about this Michael Vick thing and boy was it heated…but in the end, I won (at least until she see this post)!

The argument she had was “Why in the hell are all these people so outraged over a dog when little boys and girls are being raped, abducted, and molested.” “I know it’s wrong and I’m not condoning what he did, and yes he should be punished, however, these PETA people are staging these boycotts, getting big corporations nervous, and mobilizing an entire nation of people to speak out!”

I reviewed many of the posts here, and many address the same questions (and anger) my wife had.

How did I win the “war” last night? With these few words…

But first, let’s learn about PETA, which stands for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals - They are an animal rights activist group based here in the United States and they’re considered to be the largest animal rights group in the world (they also have offices in Canada, France, Taiwan, UK, India, etc…).

PETA’s slogan is “Animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on , or use for entertainment.”

In support of their MISSION… PETA focuses its attention on the four areas in which the largest numbers of animals suffer the most intensely for the longest periods of time:

1) on factory farms
2) in laboratories
3) in the clothing trade
4) and in the entertainment industry

They also work on a variety of other issues, including the cruel killing of beavers, birds and other “pests,” and the abuse of backyard dogs (cock fighting, bull fighting, etc…).

The organization has been criticized for some of its campaigns, for the actions of some of its employees regarding their treatment of animals, and for the number of animals it euthanizes. It was also criticized by Senator James M. Inhofe for having acted as a “spokesgroup” for the Earth Liberation Front and Animal Liberation Front, after activists associated with those groups had committed what Inhofe called “acts of terrorism.”

Now…with all that said, PETA has a mission, does their mission, and continues to do their mission.

When Michael Vick was indicted of those charges (a situation he put himself in), PETA was simply doing their mission!

PETA’s mission isn’t speaking out on little boys and little girls getting raped or abducted; PETA’s mission isn’t boycotting the War; PETA’s mission isn’t to help protect women from abusive relationships; and lastly, but certainly not least… PETA’s mission isn’t going after pedophiles!

They’re an animal rights activist group…Period!

Michael Vick isn’t being singled out. PETA has gone after everybody, primarily large corporations, such as KFC, McDonalds, Wendy’s, Burger King, PETCO, Procter & Gamble and many, many more. And Michael Vick, the football player is a corporation, whether you’d like to admit it or not. His corporation (the football player ) is worth $130+ million dollars (and not to mention the other millions in sponsorship contracts his corporation earns).

While PETA’s actions (or rather, the actions of some of their employees) are a little extreme (and dangerous), they’re simply an organization who is doing their mission!

Now… My question to you is the following…

“What’s Your Mission?”

Many of you are here whining about how important other issues are such as protecting our children from pedophiles, closing up the border, protesting the war, women’s rights, etc…

But what are you doing about it? You seem passionate about those topics when you post it here, but are you out fulfilling YOUR Mission? There are organizations out there that mobilizes their group when something does happen to children or battered women…Are you a part of these organizations.

PETA is simply doing their MISSION! They’re doing what they’re suppose to do…they mobilized their team of people and got their supporters together and they converged on these corporations supporting Michael Vick.

What are you so angry about? More importantly, what are you doing about the issues you keep bringing up?

When it was all said and done, my wife couldn’t say anything!

Why?

Because she wasn’t doing anything about those complaints she was whining about. When a little girl was abducted or rape, she didn’t go anywhere or do anything about it. When a woman was abused by a man, she didn’t speak out or do anything about it. She’s also upset about the war, but she never went to a rally or did anything about it.

When I confronted her with those facts, she had to sit back and think for a moment.

PETA has gotten everybody riled up and angry, PETA has gone after the corporations supporting Michael Vick. PETA is doing their MISSION!

What About You?

After our dispute last night, my wife decided to get online to find an organization she could become a part of…will she do it? We’ll see (I’ll keep you posted)…

What about you? Will you get out and fight for your cause? Or, will you come here and post messages about what you think “us animal lovers” should be doing to support your cause. A cause you yourself, won’t get out and support?

PETA was started by 2 people with a passion…We’re talking about 2 people here folks. If you feel so passionately about what you think “us animal lovers should be doing”, get out and start your mission!

Back in 1980, two people by the name of Alex Pacheco and Ingrid Newkirk did the very same thing I’m proposing to you now.

And I leave you with the following…

Have You Done Your Mission Lately?

Sincerely,
C. Ross

I normally disagree with PETA on most things (I eat meat, wear leather, etc.), but on this, I fully support the efforts of any group (PETA included) who makes their voices heard by the NFL and Vick’s corporate sponsors. An individual as sick and twisted as Vick should be banned by the NFL and not given any other endorsements and have his existing product lines pulled from stores. But, given that most corporations that have already spent money to produce Vick merchandise will still try to sell their existing merchandise, I urge everyone to boycott all Vick merchandise. I would also urge NFL fans to boycott Atlanta Falcons merchandise and games until they suspend Vick indefinitely from the team–4 games is not enough.

  2. siknik Says:

I DON’T AGREE W/ EVERYTHING PETA BELIEVES,BUT I AGREE THAT VICK SHOULD BE PUNISHED IN A WAY ONLY IRAN OR IRAQ CAN COULD DISTRIBUTE.

  3. Victoria Says:

    Dear C. Ross:
How brave of you to present your argument! I doubt folks are aware that the efforts of PETA (and other similar organizations) have been primarily responsible for animal-protective legislation being passed. Although I don’t agree with some PETA members’ behavior, I contribute to their organization, and others as well. I don’t agree with some of the behavior of War protestors, for instance and behavior in other organizations - why is PETA always singled out? (Do you think greedy corporations have anything to do with this?!) Who agrees with 100% of any organization’s doctrine, tactics, etc. anyway?

I volunteered at a local Battered Woman’s shelter in Atlanta. It is very rewarding…perhaps your wife will consider doing the same?

    I know I’m going to offend a few of y’all, but…

Michael Vick is Dumb in my opinion….Why would a Millionaire NFL QB get involved in an Illegal activity Like DogFights? That’s some Ghetto Shit…..Damn, Mike!!! You broKe the Law, Bro &
killed your career by being a modern day Chicken-George….Stupid.

As a Black Man I am embarrased….this cat lost Millions of Dollars in Salary/endorsements over a few thousands made off the Dogs….Ghetto!!

  5. kgmckool Says:

UP TOP ,I AGREE,HOW DO YOU GET CAUGHT UP IN THIS BULLSHIT MIKE?PITBULLS? GET REAL,ARE THOSE DOGS?OR SOME TYPE OF ALIEN MUTATION OF A DOG.THEY SHOULD BE EXTERMINATE.THESE “DOGS”HAVE NO PROBLEM KILLING CHILDREN,SO I DON’T GIVE A SHIT ABOUT THEM AND THE PETA PEOPLE DON’T EITHER,THEY’RE HYPOCRITES.

  6. kim Says:

Wow, You spoke brillantly, I hear so many people put the argument out there that your wife did…..they know I am a huge animal lover and a big defender of animal rights but I could never have expressed my self as beautifully as you have.
We all need to step up to the plate for the things we beleive in and we don’t need to critisize people who put their voices out there and are heard…….

  7. Terre Says:

I am sad about every child abused, and every animal that is tortured, and every living thing who is bullied, tortured, and seen as an object with only monetary worth.

I am sad to hear some people turn it into a race issue.

I own a pit bull, he is a baby, and I would never condone any kind of animal abuse or person abuse so I could look hip. Michael Vick is not the only sick pup who pits animals against one another in violent confrontations for pure amusement. He needs to be treated just as any good ole white boy fighting cocks in Georgia, and he needs swift retribution.

Thanks for having a sensible reply for all the naysayers. Abuse and injustice for any living thing deserves our attention, repulsion, and retribution.

  8. Sheila Says:

I have to agree with the majority of previous posts. I am NOT a PETA supporter, however C. Ross makes an excellent point. Dogs are living, breathing beings that do have feelings and do suffer the same pain that humans would suffer under any given circumstance. It is a disgrace that people suffer at the hands of other people, but it is also a disgrace that innocent animals suffer at the hands of people. It is a matter of which organization is going to fight the fight for a given cause. I also disagree with kgmckool on exterminating pit bulls. That is absolute nonsense. More often than not an agressive dog is made that way by ignorant people. Some dogs do have more of a tendency to become agressive like pitbulls do, and that is why people train them to be mean but it is not like all of them are evil it is a learned trait (most of the time). The whole situation is disgusting and hope that all of the parties involved get what is coming to them!

  9. siknik Says:

KGMCKOOL THOSE DOGS ARE OVER 700YEARS OLD IN BREED THEY WERE CALLED BULLENBEISSER’ IN GERMAN THAT MEANS BULL BITER.THE ONLY REASON WHY THEY SNAP ON CHILDREN IS THE MIKE VICKS THAT OWNED THEM.YOU FEEL THE SAME WAY ABOUT THEM AS I DO YOUR TYPES OF PEOPLE.IF PEOPLE THAT THOUGHT LIKE YOU AND VICK WERE EXTERMINATED FROM THE EARTH THEN I THINK THIS WORLD WOULD BE A BETTER PLACE.PEOPLE BRING UP THAT THEY KILL CHILDREN WELL THE PSYCHOS WHO LET A MONSTROUS DOG AROUND THE CHILDREN OR BETTER YET IF THE DOG WAS LET ROAM THE STREET JUST LIKE THE CHILDREN ARE
THAN ITS THE ADULTS FAULT FOR NOT WATCHING THE KIDS.NOW IF YOUR COMMUNITY KNEW THAT A PIT BULL WAS OTHER THAN A DRUG DEALERS GUARD DOG OR A MONEY MAKING FIGHTER.THEN THERE WOULD NOT BE CHILDREN KILLED BY THEM.ONCE YOU TEACH THAT DOG TO BE MEAN OR MAKE IT MEAN BY VICKING THE DOG THE DOG SHOULD BE ANESTHETIZED ALONG WITH THE OWNER.I BELIEVE THAT DOGS ARE WORTH MORE THAN MOST HUMAN GARBAGE THAT WALK THE EARTH.

  10. animalzrAnimals Says:

I think u ignorant jerks are so quick to try an make a dollar off of accusations…. This Man has not even been convicted….This is America right…Innocent until proven guilty!!! It’s ashame that people care more about f*cking animals than HUMANS!!! You are a bunch of A**Holes!!!!!!

  11. siknik Says:

ANIMALZ YOU ARE AN ANIMAL LOWER THEN A DOG FOR THINKING THAT HUMANS ARE MORE IMPORTANT WHEN DOGS HAVE BETTER CHARACTERISTICS THAN MOST HUMANS. IN FACT I WOULD RATHER WATCH MOST HUMANS DIE THAN INNOCENT DOGS.FUCK YOU ANIMAL YOU KNOW HE IS GOING TO TRY TO BUY HIS INNOCENCE LIKE O.J.
SIMPSON.IF THOSE WERE AFRO-AMERICANS THAT O.J. MURDERED HE WOULD OF SEEN SOME TIME AND NO-ONE WOULD HAVE BEEN POINTING TO THE FACT THAT MARK FURMAN CALLED HIM A NIGGER SEEM MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE MURDER OF NICOLE& RON GOLD.IS THAT THE KIND OF JUSTICEYOU WANT?

  12. Lori Says:

    Subject: wanna get pissed off?

    Then read this bitches:

“I believe Vick had a passion for dogfighting. I know many athletes who share his passion. The allure is the intensity and the challenge of a dog fighting to the death. It’s like ultimate fighting, but the dog doesn’t tap out when he knows he can’t win…The reason this is turning into a three-ring circus is that baseball is boring, basketball is months away, football is around the corner and we in the media don’t have a thing interesting to write about.” - Deion Sanders (AKA … THE 2ND DUMBEST MOTHERFUCKER IN THE WORLD – only 2nd behind the animal abuser, himself, Michael Vick)

    Pissed off yet? :-)

    RESPONSE:

Subject: RE: wanna get pissed off?

    I have an idea!

Let’s starve, Deion Sanders and Michael Vick for months on end, then throw them both into a dog cage with a big juicy steak with a couple of butcher knifes during the professional sports “off-season”. We can all stand around and cheer and clap and brand this new sport as, “The Two Stupidest Athlete’s Steak-Night-Fight”. We will only open the cage, once one has successfully and bloodily slaughter the other.

Upon releasing the champion, he will victoriously abound from “the cage”, we of course, will then shoot the stupid fucker in the middle of his forehead, put a spiked dog collar around his neck and hang his lifeless body from the closest tree for all the country to rejoice and cheer at this fabulous new “sport”.

How ’bout that Deion? Go fuck yourself, you stupid fucking idiot.

  13. Leilanni Says:

I am tired of hearing, “This Man has not even been convicted….This is America right…Innocent until proven guilty!!!”

    1) Innocent until proven guilty only means that the STATE/GOV can not take away your freedom without a trial; it DOES NOT mean that corporations (like NIKE), organizations (like NFL), and the public can not judge your innocence or guilt for themselves and react accordingly (so long as it’s lawful).

    2) Proving guilt does not always require a trial. a) plea bargains, for example, do not require proof of guilt in a trial, only an admittal of guilt before a judge; b) we already know he’s guilty; the question is HOW GUILTY AND EXACTLY OF WHAT?

MAYBE the disgusting things about Vick electrocuting a dog and killing at least 7 others for not performing well (not including the countless dogs that died from wounds due to fighting so Vick could be entertained) are not true; I could give him the benefit of the doubt for that.

BUT when 52 pit bulls with fighting wounds are confiscated from HIS house, when a bloody fighting ring is found at HIS house, when training and torture tools are confiscated from his house…HELLO!! Do we really need a blinking neon light here?? Even if Vick didn’t run the ring, there is NO DOUBT he had SOMETHING to do with it OR AT LEAST some knowledge about it. THAT MAKES HIM GUILTY RIGHT THERE!!

Think about the Michael Jackson case…if investigators had found and showed the public a video tape of Michael fondling little boys, or if they had found sexual toys with little notes that said “I used this on little Tommy on December 10, 2005″ at his bedside and some KY Jelly…do you really think the public would be wrong for stating the obvious??

If investigators start hauling body parts out of your neighbor’s freezer and your neighbor has been home sometime in the last month, would you be wrong to assume that your neighbor was possibly a murderer/sick freak? You’d HAVE to admit that your neighbor at least KNEW about the murder even if he didn’t commit them himself.

I don’t even care if Vick tries to say he hadn’t been home in several months and someone else was staying at his house because millionaires all have many homes…IT DOESN’T MATTER. If someone found 6,000 lbs of drugs in my vacation home, it is still MY HOME and I am responsible for it. Bottom line is…he KNEW…IF NOTHING ELSE…HE KNEW!! You don’t need a trial for that, just open your eyes. What you need a trial for is to find the depth of his involvement and to see just HOW guilty he really is.

In the end, this is America, and he may buy his FREEDOM, but his innocence is already gone.

    C. Ross & Leilanni

Loved both your write ups - well said! C. Ross - I didn’t have a full good answer until I read your comments to your wife. We all have our own passion - it is just like diversity. If we all had the same passions about the same things - the world would not fuction very well - we need all the different groups be it PETA, NOW, what ever - they all help make the world a better place as they remind us as humans of thngs we sometimes forget. Leilanni - I agree - there is no way he is completly with out guilt in this matter. This is not a racial issue - it a humainty issue - dogs today - whats next week. I am a Steeler fan and if Big Ben was caught up in the same thing - I would not change my stance on the matter. I would expect no less from the Steelers and the NFL - and would not have contined to support the Steelers if they had not done with the Falcons and NFL did - and don’t forget the endorsements - I would not have purshaced from them if they had not taken a stand. Not to mention the fact that people like him are held to higher standard because of hero worship.

I’m an animal & football lover. My son currently plays defensive tackle in high school and his dream is to play with the NFL. i can truly say we’re big fans of Michael and many other African American heroes. We’re Texans neither Black nor White but Americans of Hispanic descent. This situation between Vick and dogs is really about skin color. We all make mistakes and I believe that, all things being equal, Vick be given a chance to correct it just like any other law breaker. On the animal part, I honestly believe he should have picked another type of entertainment but that’s neither here nor there. I take off my hat to animal rights organizations because of their compassion and support for animals. I also support MIchael Vick because he is human and like all of us, not perfect. My sincere opinion is: let’s support our heroes, black, white, red, or yellow and love our God given pets.

  19. LGKidd Says:

This isn’t about race — I would be this pissed off at Michael Vick’s behavior (on anyone who abused animals) if they were white, green, purple.

A sport star is NOT A HERO. A person who runs into a burning building to save people and animals - that is a hero. A person who spends months on end serving his country on a submarine under the water with no contact from his family… is a hero. I think just because he is black and can play ball .. doesn’t give him any reason to be called a hero.

My mother is my hero. My father is my hero. My husband is my hero. Michael Vick is just another sport fad who gets paid TOO MUCH MONEY for what little he does. He doesn’t save lives, he doesn’t teach anyone a useful skill.

I think if he is found guilty his entire fortune should be taken by the government and given to animal control and rescue shelters to improve conditions, as well as set up funding for awareness and education on cruelty to animals.

  20. Quinda Vick's #1FAN Says:

PETA are hypocrites!!!!! there have been other people identified and are being charged for the exact same case!!! where are their t-shirts and web sites??? He hasn’t even been found guilty and already he has been given endless ridicule and crucifide!!! the only reason PETA is putting so much into him is because he’s famous and probaly has more money than their whle organization and this is probably the ONLY publicity they are getting this year!
And if you can have your own twisted childish opinion on heros why cant people have their own????
Let Him get his due process (like everyone else is entitled to) before you take his endorsements, won’t let him work, and ruin his image… it is as if everyone seen him do the things he has been ALLEGED doing. the simple truth is YOU dont Know I don’t know but until the outcome of the case WE won’t ..
Eventhen, we still weren’t there sowe will NEVER know for sure… because there are plenty of innocent ppl behind bars!

  21. StdPoodlBreeder Says:

I dont agree with everything that PETA does either…
BUT, In Vicks case, PETA is right-on, and so are the millons of other people
speaking up against animal abuse & Vick.
***This is: Extreme Animal Abuse folks, & it has to stop.***
Humans should be the *Protectors & Caregivers* of
dogs/animals that cannot speak for themselves.
Man is the only preditor that murder’s for fun & sport.

This *Vick, dog abuse case* should be an example for all the kids & adults that idolize NFL football players, that animal Abuse should never be tolerated, no matter how rich & famous the person in question is.
    Example:
I know in High School football, my son had to sign a *Code of Ethic’s sheet.*
Even tho animal abuse was not mentioned, the code of ethic’s, meant for
the kids to be *Outstanding role models in football and as a citizen, and public servant.
Vick does not meet the High School requirement. Period.

Vick (if found guilty, and he should be) should never be allowed to wear a NFL Jersey again, except in his own back yard.

AGAIN… In dictment charge & information CLICK ON THE LINK BELOW:

According to the indictment, along with paraphernalia associated with
dogfighting, authorities found 66 dogs-including approximately 54 pit
bulls, some malnourished, scarred, and wounded-who are being kenneled in
several different municipal pounds around Surry County, and they remain
    under federal custody .

    The 18-page indictment:

against Vick and three other men (Purnell A. Peace, Quanis L. Phillips,
and Tony Taylor) describes a grisly underground enterprise that must
have taken careful planning and strategy to put together. A rural piece
of property was allegedly purchased specifically for breeding, raising,
and training dogs for fighting, and those who did not “perform well”
were tortured and killed by hanging, drowning, beating, and
    electrocution.

First of all. Wrong is wrong and there is no other way around it. I also think animal cruelty is wrong, if you are CONVICTED of animal cruelty. None of you are in the position to be the judge. If he is innocent will you all be there to say I am sorry for convicting and judging you with out knowing all the facts. I doubt you will. Let’s remember O.J. Simpson. I think PETA is full of crap!!! Football, Baseball, Basketball etc….. have been around for years and I never seen PETA try to shutdown neither for using LEATHER BALLS MADE FROM ANIMAL SKINS for entertainment. I wonder why? That’s because PETA is full of CRAP they don’t let the public know about how many animals they put down each year. I can’t say if he did or didn’t and neither should you. Nobody is better than the other who are we to Judge. If these same people STAND UP for Humans the way they put time, money, and energy for STANDING UP for animals we probably wouldn’t be living in a messed up World. God created humans to be equal (after all these years they haven’t got that right yet) animals are not equal to humans. Missing kids, rape, murder, etc…… Your focus is defiantly not on People and the Ethical Treatments of HUMANS.

  24. Adoptashelterpet Says:

Well said C.Ross, I don’t always agree with what PETA stands for, but they are for animal rights and not afraid to stand up and speak out. I have spent my time in the trenches. Seven years in a high-kill animal shelter. I have seen the best and worst of humanity, and the stories I could tell. Seven years of looking at every type of animal abuse, from animals surrendered so “good hard-working” folks can take a high dollar vacation and not pay for boarding fees (and no you don’t get that animal back at the end of that vacation) 55% get adopted that other 45% either end up sick and die or are euthanized due to space issues, there is only so much room at the inn. To Pit Bulls that have been fought, to just about anything you can imagine.

I agree, that everyone should give a little bit of time somewhere. My fovorite quote is:

“I asked why someone did not do something, and suddenly it occured to me, I am somebody”.

If everyone in the world gives just a little there shouldn’t be alot left to fix.

As for the focus being on children and other crimes in the world and not on dog fighting, I don’t think that all the police forces and task forces in the world are now focused on Vick and this investigation. I do think that the world is still turning and life is still going on. I don’t think that this is the only crime in America that is being investigated and he is the only person being brought before a Grand Jury at this time. I also don’t think he is the only person that I have seen on Headline News lately either. He is however one of the highest paid atheletes at this time, and he choose to put himself in a self-sacrificing position. If you want all the glory, when you allow yourself to fall you must be willing to take the shame. If your not then you must not run with the dogs, because the price of shame is high. He did this to himself, guilty or not guilty, only time and the evidence will tell, but if it was me, and I was accused and not guilty, I would be on every news channel speaking my innocence, not hanging my head and telling my mamma I was sorry in the court room.

Maybe in such a high profile case such as Vicks, this will bring more attention to Animal Abuse accross the nation, WHICH WILL BE A GOOD THING, dont you think????
BTY.. Pit Bulls were not placed here on earth specifically for
MAN’S thirst for Blood. Fighting PitBulls is Mans choice, not the dog.

Now about OJ, if you remember correctly, His money set him free
    in the first trial.
    OJ’s Dream Team played the
Race Card, because of Officer Mark Ferman (spelling?) using the N word.

    Robert,
I understand what your point is. Animals are not equal Humans, True.

But everything starts with Humans & the decisions that humans make, humans are suppose to be the most intelligent beings on this earth, correct? We have the gift of: Thought, Reason, Compassion, problem solving, animals do not. It all starts & ends with us.

There is proof that humans who are capable of abusing animals, are also found to abuse their own likeness: Other humans. Fact.

My mission has always been to be on the lookout for those who abuse domestic animals. I am outraged about this whole Michael Vick thing, and that comes from years of frustration over seeing so many animal abuse cases where the abuser walks away with not even a slap on the wrist. In short, “I’m mad as hell and I’m not gonna take it anymore.” I’m an active supporter of the ASPCA and work in pet care. I want to see Michael Vick serve a substantial sentence for his part in such brutal activity. He needs the maximum sentencing allowed. Actually, he deserves more than sentencing allows but that’s the best I can hope for.

  30. 305boarkiller Says:

I think that PETA is full of hypocrites that have nothing better to do than to try and be the judge and jury in case that hasnt been decided as of yet. Mike Vick may be wrong, and as such he should be punished, but this big deal is just ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!!

Vick’s attorneys met with federal prosecutor Michael Gill and investigators Monday afternoon and plan to discuss the quarterback’s options with him, sources told ESPN.

This report comes on the same day that Vick’s co-defendants, Purnell Peace and Quanis Phillips will be in court for their plea agreement hearings on Thursday and Friday. Another co-defendant, Tony Taylor, has agreed to fully cooperate with investigators.

Just finished reading all the comments and I think its interesting what people have to say about what Vick allegedly did.

The opinion’s against Vick reflect with mostly thoughtout responses from what they have learned such as: Video tape, amount of pit dogs, fighting ring, torture tools etc.. EVIDENCE which were all taken from Vick’s house!!

The opinion’s for Vick reflect innocent until proven guilty comments, he is black comments, just swearing in general, and thats about it. Oh wait a few bring up OJ who did lose in civil court and no longer has custody of his children!!

So my opinion reflects that he is guilty of animal cruelty from the evidence that I have seen so far, but by all means if there is evidence that he is some how innocent please bring it up or show me. My opinion had no bias on the pigmentation of his skin, the amount of money he earns, or his profession.

Now I just have to sit back and see if he takes a plea bargin or takes his chances in court.

Report: Plea Deal Likely for Michael Vick

  35. StdPoodlBreeder Says:

Everyone knows now, that Vick will not receive any jail time…which breaks my heart for all the dead & hurt dogs.(I’ll bet, they’ll just sweep all the dead dogs under the carpet, and let Vick play ball again!)

You know Vick will take the Plea deal….and that he could basicly just get his *Hands slapped* for all offences.

(I hope he doesnt take the Plea.) LOL

The Facts Below: *If* Vick takes Plea deal…

Vick stands indicted of a single count of conspiracy to cross state lines to engage in illegal gambling; sponsor a dog in an animal fighting venture; and buy, transport and receive dogs for animal fighting. The maximum penalty for the conspiracy charge is five years in prison. But if Vick were to plead guilty, he is expected to face no more than a year in prison, according to federal guidelines.

If Vick could negotiate a deal that drops the conspiracy charge and allows him to only admit a role in the dogfighting offenses — which are misdemeanors — he could face even less time.

  36. steve Says:

What a looser!!…….if he is a real man he should not be hurting helpless animals…he should face the law all the way. I hope he spend many years behind bars BMF!!

  37. Christian Duque Says:

Michael Vick is a scumbag that should be fully prosecuted. Our government loves to break our backs with taxes, but given all the national outcry and the heinous nature of the crimes committed by Vick & Co. the federal boys are practically wetting themselves to offer a plea deal — it’s truly upsetting.

This is my site: www.SickMikeVick.com I’d love to work with this site also, very nice.

  38. Adoptashelterpet Says:

StdPoodlBreeder dogfighting is actually a felony, the dilemma with the M. Vick case is the bill was not signed by President Bush until 8 days after the property was searched. The Fed’s are quiet as to rather it is when the property is searched or when he was charged as to rather it is a felony or not. This difference is a maximum of 1 year in jail or 3 years in jail for each offenese, so we are talking 8 dogs or 8 years vs. 24 years.

  39. StdPoodlBreeder Says:

the dilemma with the M. Vick case is the bill was not signed by President Bush

What bill was that? What exactly was in this bill?
    Thanks

  40. Adoptashelterpet Says:

    Animal Fighting Prohibition Enforcement Act

    Bill Number: H.R. 137 & S. 261
    Bill Status: Signed into Law
    HSUS Position: Support
Bill Sponsor(s): Reps. Elton Gallegly (R-CA), Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) and Roscoe Bartlett (R-MD)
Sens. Maria Cantwell (D-WA), John Ensign (R-NV), Arlen Specter (R-PA), and Dianne Feinstein (D-CA)

Last Action: 5/3/07: Signed into law.

To upgrade current penalties by authorizing felony-level jail time (up to three years) for violations of the federal animal fighting law, and to prohibit interstate and foreign commerce of cockfighting and dogfighting.

Download a factsheet on this legislation at www.HSUS.com

There are I think two states that have some slight exceptions to this law a one is Idaho and I can’t remember the other.

Let’s hope he spends the 18 months and not the 12 months and they do set an example for everyone. After all, we are the voice for the innocent victims he killed.

  42. Sheila Says:

So much for the innocent until proven guilty defense of Michael Vick that we have heard how many times on this blog. Thank god that he is going to own up to what he did but it is really disappointing knowing he will probably get a lighter sentence now.

  43. Effie Says:

Besides getting sick to my stomach thinking about what this man did to these poor animals, it makes my blood boil to think about when all this started, Vick said he wasn’t guilty and was going to clear his name. So not only is he a sadistic jerk, he’s a liar too.

  44. Brandy's Dad Says:

What an outstanding message from C. Ross , thanks , hopefully other people with an open mind that read your message can understand it , instead of throwing out negative comments about how they feel about PETA , etc… I would also like to comment on an opinion I have , and that is Michael Vick is not a Hero of any kind , if you need a football player in Atlanta that you would want to look up to for being a great football player and outstanding human being , consider Warrick Dunn , who has started charities to benefit people in need in Florida & Georgia . Warrick has a big heart , and I admire the other professional players that open their hearts and go out of their way to help others . Just a couple of thoughts to consider about our furry friends . The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated - Gandhi
The one absolutely unselfish friend that man can have in this selfish world, the one that never deserts him, the one that never proves ungrateful or treacherous, is his dog. Michael Vick you let down your fans , dog owners and the dogs you once owned . Tom

  45. Ian Lynch Says:

Lets be real…had mike Vick been Payton Manny or Chuck Liddell, you guys wouldn’t give a rats ass on how many dogs he killed….look at Allen that plays for the chiefs…he’s had 4 dui’s in the past 6 months , yet no one cares that he’s putting human beings life at stake when he gets behind the wheel….

The modern ‘sport’ of dog fighting has its origins in the Coliseum combats of ancient Rome. Emperor Lucullus was reputedly the first to initiate the practice of pitting dogs against other animals: a group of dogs would be thrown into the Coliseum, doomed to be trampled to death by wild elephants. You guys also go out there and shoot deer for there antlers and elephants for there tusk (how sad). And if you didn’t know some states are putting bans on pit bulls which means if you own one you have to have it put to sleep. So what’s the difference in what “They say” Mike did and what they’re doing??? Its still killing dogs isn’t it???? If you guys are such animal lovers then act like it, don’t say one thing and do another

  46. Bev Bernacik Says:

You spoke very well about doing something about the mission in which you believe. When I had to go on disability, because of a disease that almost killed me, I knew I wanted to do something. My minister always had a coat giveaway in the fall & winter for anyone who needed one. The year after I was feeling better, I asked him about a clothes giveaway along with the coats. He told me I could be in charge. I opened in November “03. We held our annual Huge Saturday Giveaway and had ninety seven people come to the clothes pantry. I agree that instead of complaining, get involved and help!

  47. SaraLS Says:

Thank you very much for this!! I’m glad to see that I am not the only one frustrated by just what you spoke about. VERY well said!! Animal abuse is one very serious issue out of SO very many in this country, and in this world. And they each need to be dealt with. One thing I am glad about with this case is that this awful “sport” is finally getting serious attention, which needs to happen in order for those who participate to be caught and stopped and tracked down….

    And to Ian -

You must be joking… if it had been Payton Manning, Liddel, or anyone else for that matter, I would be just as enraged. It’s not about race. It’s about stupidity and guilt and lack of respect for life.

  48. Leilanni Says:

I have been digusted with Vick’s actions since this story broke. I am an avid dog lover and supporter of animal rights - see my post on Aug 2nd above you can see how unhappy/angry I am about Vick’s actions. However, I think Vick is being punished for his illegal and reprehensible decisions/actions and we should move on.

Let’s examine what his actions have cost him:
    1) Probably at least 1 year in prison (hopefully anyway) = HIS FREEDOM
    2) His career is either over altogether or mortally wounded = HIS CAREER
    3) He has lost his sponsors
    4) He lost his dignity/good name
    5) Estimates show that this is probably going to cost Vick more than $150 million dollars when this is all said and done. This will probably end up costing him his homes (because with no job he can’t pay the taxes on them), his money, etc.

PLEASE don’t mistake me and think that I feel sorry for him, but I do think that IF all the above pans out, Vick has more than paid his debt to society. Beyond his freedom, his job, his future career, his money, his property - what more can we demand from him? Does JUSTICE in this case really mean that Vick has to die?

Yes, the punishments for people who kill animals are not stiff enough in any state; but, the point is, Vick is receiving the punishment for his crime under the current law. That is all that we could have hoped for. It would be scary if Congress were to change the penal codes and possible punishments overnight and then back-date them to ensure Michael Vick spent the rest of his life in jail. That may satisfy some of us, but only until a criminal law was backdated which resulted in one of us being jailed! So, for now, he will be punished according to the laws at the time his crimes were committed.

I think it is time to accept his apology (that doesn’t mean forgive or forget his actions, but maybe forgive him as a person who is not infallible), let him serve his punishment, and then let him live his life. Let’s face it - we have already won (those of us who didn’t want to see Vick walk away scott free).

Not only is Vick being punished, but his case has sent a message to every community and every famous person - “No matter how loved and rich you think you are, you are gambling with everything you’ve ever worked for and your future if you commit heinous acts like these.”

  49. Kristina Says:

    C. Ross, I agree with Leilanni - Your words were heartwarming!
Furthermore, YOU should run for president! What you said was true, and maybe if more people thought like you did and spoke their mind, we could finally live in a more humane world!
I do everything I can for the animals. I don’t just “talk about it,” I do what I can. I donate time, money and try to educate people regarding the needless animal abuse that is FAR too cruel and frequent.
    C. Ross, I hope your wife knows what a truly compassionate man she married.
Finally, I WISH I was the one deciding Mike Vick’s punishment…

  50. javelisma Says:

first i must say…. siknik… you are a racist asshole!!!!!!! second i dont agree with what mike did at all…but… there is cock fighting.. bull fighting.. deer hunting..etc… no one gives a damn about them… with the exception of peta…so we as football fans have built mike up… now lets all forget about him when we findout he is human… he fucks up… he did fuck up big and he will pay the price… who are we to judge him… i am pretty sure that even some who have posted on here have done worse things…and as for peta…. they are no better than terrorists… yup i said it… they talk a good game about saving animals but they go after real people… they have been known to car bomb scientist.. attack them and there familys..all for their cause… please… that sounds like a hypocrite to me..

  51. Animal Chaplain Nancy Cronk Says:

If there is anything good about the Michael Vick story, it is that there is an emerging increased awareness about animal cruelty and animal fighting. However…

I think it is a sad commentary that we, as a culture, are using the Vick story to compare “What’s worse?” “What’s worse”, we ask, “carelessly fathering illegitimate children, or dogfighting?”. “Dogfighting or gambling?” “Dogfighting or rape?” “Dogfighting or racism?” “Dogfighting or hateful nationalism?” “Dogfighting or (fill in the blank)….?” The comparisons to dogfighting have been endless.

Dogfighting is one more piece of evidence our country is in need of a spiritual transformation (please note I said spiritual and not necessarily religious). Animals are sentient beings - they feel pain, and they suffer, just like we do. They are not more important, or less important than human beings, but like human beings, they are important, too.

Every major faith teaches its followers to be responsible stewards of animals and the Earth. Please help us get the word out that caring for animals, just like caring for people, is an important part of just being a decent person and citizen. If we make this a priority, there will be no more dogfighting horror stories, and no more pointless comparisons of evils. Let us all rise, together, to be better people than we are today, shall we?

  52. Justina Says:

If your wife is so concerned about children being abused, molested than maybe she should get off her ass and do something about it. I love animals and will protect them at all costs. It least PETA DOES SOMETHING ABOUT WHAT THEY BELIEVE IN

TELL YOUR WIFE TO GET HER ASS OF THE COUCH AND STAND UP FOR HER BELIEFS INSTEAD OF DISSING OTHERS!

    What will your wife do????

  53. Carol Says:

My mission - to enlighten the general public that they - along with YOU - have been duped by both PETA and H$U$! What you have overlooked is the lavish lifestyle they’re honchos are enjoying - while you send them money. What you’re also overlooking is that these people HATE animals! That’s right! They are intent on making ALL domestic animals EXTINCT! In fact - they have been quoted saying that “the human race should go extinct so the planet can heal itself!” My mission is to expose their sickness as just that - SICK!

They aren’t concerned in the LEAST about the animals - and they want the kids extinct also! DUH!!!!

  54. Sam Says:

I believe Vick should be punished according to the law and thats it. I side with your wife. There are more important things that need to be addressed beginning with EVERY child crime. You and PETA have a mission to save dogs and animals, and that’s great. Dog fighting has been going on every day up until Vick was caught. Where are the shirts for the dogs pre Vick???

Yes, your wife and everyone who feels like her don’t do much to support our issues as you say, BUT it’s also not or JOB to do so. I’m doing my part by raising my son properly so he doesnt become a Vick or Dahmer, etc. We feel more people should be up in arms and making tshirts for HUMAN issues. We have a right to have an opinion as to what we feel is more important. Just like as voting citizens we can complain about political issues, but we don’t have political jobs or belong to political organizations.

Also, If you make shirts blasting Vick, where are the shirts blasting child molesters, the Bush administration or those who bring drugs into our country, etc. You don’t think these issues are more important?

So, to answer your question, I feel OUR MISSION is to prioritize man-kinds efforts and resources to caring for HUMANS more than animals. Vick will pay!! you don’t need to make shirts about it. Unless you wanna make a few buck to capitalize on the situation. Or its a personal thing because of his race or wealth.

Dog fighting is serious, but It’s just not the epidemic it’s being made out to be compared to more serious humanitarian issues.

  55. Administrator Says:

    Sam,

Thank you for your post, and as you mentioned, we’re all entitled to our opinions.

But in response to the following comment you made:

“Also, If you make shirts blasting Vick, where are the shirts blasting child molesters, the Bush administration or those who bring drugs into our country, etc. You don’t think these issues are more important?”

You’re at a web site for dog fighting…that’s what we’ve chosen to be vocal about. Why do you and others come here and tell us what we should be more concerned about???

That’s what I’m having a hard time understanding…you’re at a website that is vocal about what Mike Vick did with regards to dog fighting…

This isn’t a site about child molesters, and it’s certainly not a site about the Bush administration…instead of questioning our motives, why don’t you go create yourself a simple blog and talk about Bush and child molesters. You can get a FREE blog at Google and put the same thought and energy you did into posting your comment…Sam, it really is that simple believe it or not.

I’m in no way saying child molestation is not a serious issue, but give us a break, this entire site is about Vick and dog fighting, period!

It’s the equivalent of you walking into a church and being upset with the fact you can’t watch porn flicks on the projection screen…wrong congregation buddy…you can watch porn flicks all you want, but you gotta go find a different crowd…

Maybe that’s not a good example, but come on…why are you preaching about what we should be doing to make “YOU” feel like you’re doing something…

As you mentioned, your only purpose in life is to raise your son to be a respectable and contributing member to society….that’s fine and dandy if that’s the only thing in life that you want to do, but save the rhetoric if that’s the only thing you plan on contributing to society.

Go get yourself a blog and do something…I imagine you doing something would actually be better than you wasting your precious time trying to convince us to do something better with our time, when clearly you have nothing to contribute…that’s basically what you said in your own post, just go back and re-read your own words….

The following statement you made a moment ago pretty much sums you all up Sam:

“Yes, your wife and everyone who feels like her don’t do much to support our issues as you say, BUT it’s also NOT our JOB to do so.”

In other words…you’re one of those people who will sit by and watch someone get molested, raped, mugged, beaten or abused and you simply won’t do anything…because as you say it so clearly, It’s NOT YOUR JOB to do so…

Get a life Sam, you’re worse than Vick!

  56. Confused Says:

Administrator, you said this site is just about dog fighting. Then why are all of the comments about hating, killing, and hurting Michael Vick…. What about the other guys that were arrested with him? Do you care to talk about them; what are their names? I haven’t heard much about them except that they snitched on Mike. What do you want to happen to them? Can they keep their jobs and Mike should lose his? I think you don’t care to talk about the other people because you can’t gain anything from talking about people that are not celebrities. Wouldn’t this site be more effective for you and others if you talked about everyone that has been accused, convicted, arrested, or whatever for dog fighting? What about the people right there in your state, city, or neighborhood that participate in dog fighting. Can you put there names out here so we can know who they are and where they are? I don’t know of anybody that is involved in this. I would like to know if this may be going on in my neighborhood.

I think the creator of this site is obsessed with Mike Vick and needs to get a life and some dogs. I gotcha back Sam.

  57. DISAPPOINTED IN PEOPLE Says:

I THINK EVERYONE NEEDS TO LAY OFF OF VICK! EVERYONE MAKES MISTAKES AND WHO ARE YOU TO JUDGE HIM. FOR THE MAN TO HAVE IS JOB TAKING FROM HIM FOR DOG FIGHTING THAT’S CRAZY! I NOT SAYING WHAT HE DID IS RIGHT BUT THIS MAN ADMIT THAT HE MADE A MISTAKE AND HE IS LEARNING FROM IT. DON’T SIT HERE ARE JUDGE HIM BECAUSE OF THIS ONE PUBLIC MISTAKE THAT HE MADE. NO ONE IS PERFECT AND I AM SURE ALL OF YOU HAVE MADE MISTAKE JUST AS BAD OF AS WORSE AS THIS ONE. I HEAR PEOPLE SAY HE SHOULD DO THAT BECAUSE HE IS A FOOTBALL PLAYER. HELL HE’S HUMAN TOO WE ALL MAKE MISTAKES. GET REAL PEOPLE! NO HIS JOB SHOULD NOT BE TAKEN HE WORKED HARD TO GET WHERE HE IS TODAY AND HE DESERVES ALL THE SUCCES THAT HE’S GOTTEN. NO HE NOT PERFECT BUT HELL WHO IS? SPEAKING OF NIKE AND THE NFL SINCE YOU ALL ARE FOR THE ANIMALS WHY AREN’T YOU PROTESTING NIKE OR THE NFL WHO USE LEATHER THAT COMES FROM ANIMALS. THAT’S A BIG ASS CONTRADICTION. YOU PEOPLE NEED TO FORGIVE THIS MAN HE HAS LEARNED AND DON’T FORGET YOU WILL BE JUDGED ONE DAY BY THE MAN UPSTAIRS. ONE OF GOD REQUIREMENT IS TO FORGIVE AND I THINK ALOT OF PEOPLE ARE LOSING SIGHT OF THAT.

  58. DISAPPOINTED IN PEOPLE Says:

I’M WAS READING SOME OF THESE COMMENTS AFTER POSTING MINES AND I CAN’T BELIEVE YOU PEOPLE. YOU HAVE SO MUCH HATRED AGAINST THIS MAN. I NEVER CARE FOR PETA BEFORE BUT AFTER SEEING SOME OF THESE POSTING I REALLY DON’T RESPECT WHAT YOU PEOPLE DO NOW. I UNDERSTAND PROTESTING BUT CALLING VICK A BMF PISSES ME OFF! SO LET’S NOT GET RACIAL BECAUSE WE CAN EACH GO BACK AND FORTH FOR DAYS. YOU PEOPLE KILL OH WHAT ABOUT THE DOGS AND HURTING THE DOG BUT YET YOU ARE SAY THIS MAN SHOULD BE SHOT. GET THE FUCK OUT HERE! NOT TO SOUND NASTY BUT REALLY! I READ SOME NASTY SHIT UP HERE ABOUT VICK THAT I DON’T LIKE! I HOPE HE GET HIS JOB BACK AND BECOME EVEN BIGGER THAN HE WAS BEFORE AND I HOPE HE DOESN’T GET A DAY IN JAIL. I’M LIKE DAMN PEOPLE HE SAID HE WAS SORRY AND I TRUELY BELIEVE HE MEANT IT. BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU SAY BECAUSE IT CAN COME BACK AND BITE YOU ON YOUR ASS!

  59. Welcome to Amurika Says:

Some things you just can’t get past with an apology. “Sorry I spilled coffee on ya” “I’m really sorry I ran over your dog by mistake” It’s possible to apologize for those events in our lives.
But Vick can’t duck past who he is by apologizing for “bad judgement” when he and his buddies electrocuted dogs and slammed dogs to death on a concrete floor. That’s not bad judgement by someone who knows better. That’s not something you can apologize for and step past with a year in jail or a meaningless fine.
We know what kind of culture we live in. We know Vick will come out of prison to a bidding war for his services. We know the culture has no moral imperative. He will spend a year or so being idolized by the worst element of our culture and will come out more respected and valued by us than the murders whose music we are addicted to.
It’s about us, not a murderous thug like Vick. He’s just our tool. The thing we use to represent who we are. And he’s not alone. Do you really think none of his teammates were there betting on the fights? Don’t you all know someone, if not yourselves, who would have jumped at the chance to hang with your heros and bet on the fights and be impressed with the power.
We have made these steroid ridden beasts. They are who we are. We love them. We idolize them. We envy them and want to be like them. When they show us exactly who they are, we excuse them.
Vick is most certainly being excused. We fine him, but it means nothing to his wealth. The guys sitting next to him at the fights are still on the teams. Still suffering with the drugged up pain. Still revelling in the kill or be killed life of the NFL. Anyone who thinks Vick won’t be one of the most valuable commodities in the NFL when he returns doesn’t understand the business of the NFL.
Sure, the NFL is marginally distancing itself from Vick, for now. It just busienss damage control. But they are also ensuring that it stays all about Vick and not about the culture of their business, or the deadbeat hero worship of professional sports.
If Vick was actually a brave hero we would have apologized for who he is. Instead we all got together and agreed on the damage control that allowed him to apologize for “poor judgement”. If he were actually heroic and had any clue about the depths of his perversion, he would have told his fans to reject him outright. Instead the damage control apologiy we have allowed will make him even more valuable to his business in the end.
It’s all about us and what we choose to respect. The fact that we accept the immorality of slamming a helpless dog to death just because he could by simply comparing it to other immorality in our degrading culture says everything about who we are.
Vick is us and because we have to reject ourselves in order to reject him, he will remain a hero.
    Welcome to Amurika.

  60. Drop the remote! Says:

Hey Welcome to Amurika! I’m with ya! Let’s drop the remotes and go outside. Take that dog patiently waiting at your feet for a walk.
There’s a reason they’re called remote controls and it’s not because we’re the ones in control. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could use the actions of this degenerate to turn a corner to better lives. For every Vick that makes big news with his degradation, there are thousands of everyday degenerates that don’t
If we need to slam something, maybe it should be our TVs.
    Regretfully,
    Vick is us!
    That’s a teeshirt I’d wear.
    I’m going for a walk.
    R

  61. Gabriel Says:

I agree with everything said. I for one have done alot for animals. I volunteer my time at the animal shelter, around my neighborhood I say I;ve saved a couple of dogs from being mistreated. I hate animal cruelty, and the people who support dog fighting. Maybe if we put them in the dogs shoes I wonder how they would feel being mistreated, beat, drowned, or electricuted when we didnt have any use for them. I love animals. Vick got what he deserves and so will everyone else invoved in such filth.

  62. DISAPPOINTED IN PEOPLE Says:

It’s easy for people to judge other but they can’t see what they are doing themselves. People saying all these evil things about Vick because of him being involved with dogfighting but yet at the same time you all are reacting to him in a violent way. That a contradict! How can someone who cares so much for dogs have so much hate for a human being. There’s is something twisted about that! If you can see that then I pray and hope you all get some love in your heart before it is your judgment day! If you really want to be in a dog’s paw do you think dogs like having a chain on their neck while being walked? That’s cruelty because if you are going to dog human like characteristics can you imagine have a some tied around your neck. My things is what do some human really have dogs for is it because they feel they are rescuing the dogs or is it for their own selfish reasons, so they can feel they can have something to control. If you want to talk about animal cruelty is cruel when you separate puppies from their mother so someone have a pet. Again if you want to give dog human like character… can you imagine someone coming in to taking your child just to have as a pet. Sounds crazy right! because that what you see dogs as and that’s what society allows. Well so it the fact that a man is going to jail for dog fighting! THere are more serious things going on the the world beside these dogs. You all have this much passion about dogs why don’t you use it on thing that really affect human kind. What about the black girl who was raped, stab, and made to eat rats and etc. why can’t you all get passionate about human issues like that? I understand loving your dog but I can’t respect anyone who claims to love animals but yet say hateful things about a human being. The part about forgiveness again be careful what you say because you will never know when you might get in a situation and you might need someone forgiveness!

  63. e r Says:

I have to say, I do not do anything about those other things that he spoke about. The rapings, the murders, etc. So if I don’t do anything about those, I dang sure ain’t gonna worry about no pit bulls, a dog bred to fight from way back. People are cruel. They (we) have been fighting animals for the last three milleniums, atleast. Pit bulls are vicious. they are bred to fight. if they don’t fight, they are of no use to the breeder. if a coon dog or bird dog can’t hunt, he is of no use to the breeder. if a milk cow doesn’t give milk, she is of no use to the breeder(can you say steak). You cleanse the line so they don’t reproduce. this government kills thousands of dogs yearly in pounds. i know it isn’t the same, but so what. dogs are animals. God put them here to serve us. get over it. it is just a dog. or 7 of them

  64. Drop the remote! Says:

So, e r, you have no problem with the way these deranged degenerates put these dogs to death? Body slamming them onto a concrete floor and other equally cruel and unnecessarily violent atrocities? No problem? Just typical human nature and the way things have to be?
Maybe, just maybe, God put dogs and the rest of the planet here to test us.
To see if we were up to the task of actually living in his image.
If so, Vick and his fellow degenerate morons flunked royally .
    R

  65. Sheila Says:

“e r”, how about you do some homework before you come in here and act like you know what you are talking about. Do you have any idea how many bird dogs and hounds are houshold pets? They aren’t bred for their hunting ability alone. And may I also point out that dairy cows are NOT slaughtered for meat.. big difference there. Pit bulls are NOT bred to be fighters!! I am sick to death of people saying stupid crap like that. They are dogs.. they are bred to be dogs (please join us in the 21st century) and the owners take it upon themselves to train them to fight. And “disappointed in people”, maybe you should do some homework as well. Most of the people that have posted here have stated that they are NOT PETA supporters/members. I’m not I can tell you that, so don’t judge us for discussing what Vick has done. And then on top of that you accuse us of doing things just as bad or worse.. well, maybe that is the case for you because you do sound a bit like the type to do dispicable things, but I am sure that most of the people posting in here have not! And for those of you that say that we are just pointing fingers at Vick and not his coconspirators.. well I can sum that up in one word.. CRAP. There isn’t any person in the world that I would defend for treating dogs the way that he has. I don’t care if they are male, female, black, white, famous or not. Face it, Vick is in the public eye so he is going to recieve public scrutiny. I would absolutely love it if everyone that abuses animals (including Vick’s coconspirators) got the notoriety that they so rightly deserve but we all know that will never happen.
And to “drop the remote”, I couldn’t have said it better myself.

Honestly, if humans can not respect and treat INNOCENT animals in a humane and decent way and people that defend these actions are so ready to judge us for speaking out against it, what do you think these people would be willing to do to fellow humans?
