Dog Days Of Summer: Armada Host “Michael Vick Animal Awareness Day” Fans Invited To Bring Canine Friends; Join in Michael Vick Jersey Bonfire!
LONG BEACH, CA - The Long Beach Armada of Los Angeles of California of the United States of North America including Barrow, Alaska have announced that on Sunday, July 29, 2007 at 2:05pm the Armada will host the first ever “Michael Vick Animal Awareness Day.” On the heels of Michael Vick’s indictment, baseball fans and their four-legged friends are invited to bring their pooch and sit in a special section at Blair Field.
Reminiscent of the infamous Disco Demolition over 25 years ago (without the attendant stampede and chaos), the Armada will destroy all Michael Vick jerseys in protest to the inhumane treatment of animals. Any fan who trades in a Michael Vick t-shirt or jersey at the box office will receive free admission to the game and a donation in their name will be made to Justin Rudd’s Community Action Team ( C.A.T.), a 501c3 nonprofit that provides educational outreach and events to help inspire a better understanding of dogs, encourage responsible ownership practices, and offer practical adoption and rescue opportunities.
Operation Santa Paws will be on hand to collect donations for abused and abandoned animals currently in shelters and rescues. Fans who bring in pet toys, treats, and/or cleaning supplies will receive a free ticket to a future Armada game courtesy of Operation Santa Paws and the Long Beach Armada. Special events to celebrate “man’s (woman’s) best friend” are being planned for fans and their pets attending the game, including a ceremonial doggie first pitch, doggie beauty contest, skate-boarding bulldogs, wiener dog races, doggie washes, and more. The Armada will have a special entrance for doggies and their owners. In addition to being on a leash, dogs must have their vaccinations current and dog owners must sign a waiver of liability prior to entering Blair Field. In the interest of safety for both fans and dogs, any dog that becomes aggressive will be asked to leave. Dogs will be allowed to visit a designated comfort area throughout the game.
“Armada players, coaches, and staff spend every day working in the professional sports world and many of us are also devoted dog owners. We feel as sports professionals it is necessary to bring awareness to animal abuse, particularly the intolerable injustices associated with dog fighting,” commented Armada President and General Manager Steven Bash. “We hope the entire community of Long Beach comes out to help support the Armada, our partners, and this important event.”
Season ticket holders and fans who purchase tickets through the Armada corporate office or participating sponsors will be able to receive a free DOGGIE admission ticket for their canine companion. Free voucher coupons or other complimentary tickets are not eligible for DOGGIE tickets.

You guys are worst than he is (if he did it)!!! It’s not like dog fighting is new!! Oh, but a black athlete does it and it becomes a witch hunt!! Don’t get me wrong - - dog fighting, chicken fighting, worm fighting, people fighting, it’s all wrong. Why didn’t we get this much reaction when the people or murdered or missing. The FBI certainly didn’t come to Tallahassee a look for the missing pregnant mother and wife. Imagine that! Really!! Shouldn’t the FBI be doing something more meaningful wiht taxpayers dollars - - like secure our country, air ports, homelessness, unemployment, health care for all etc. etc. You’re treating the dogs like their life is more valuable than Mike Vicks - -new flash - - it’s not!!!

WHY WHY WHY must the race card be thrown out there. I don’t care if you are pink, purple, green, red, yellow, etc., animal cruelty will NOT be tolerated. Michael Vick and those of his ilk (and I mean people who torture animals, not the color of his skin) are a waste of space, low life, mouth breathing, no talent, poster children for birth control. I hope he BURNS for what he did. Let us not forget that not only are these dogs tortured and abused but they also use cats/kittens/puppies/dogs/rabbits, etc. as bait animals and those are usually someone’s pet or that “free kitten” being given away in the newspaper. MANY animals suffer at the hands of these monsters.

Jacky, just because dog fighting is not new does not make it OKAY (idiot). Child sex offenders are also not new, so does that mean we should not prosecute them either because they have been doing that for centuries? I say we put Vick in a ring with other thugs and make them fight to the death and when they refuse, we torture them or if they lose the fight, we slam their bodies to the ground. “An eye for an eye . . .”

I think it is sick what people do to these poor animals! I raised pitts and it’s all the way you raise them. I raised minen to be loving dogs and that is what they turned out to be. All a dog wants is to be loved. They give back what is given to them. It works the same way as a person. If you show a person love and kindness they will give it back. I treat a animal and a person the way that I would want to be treated. What does race have to do with a person treating a animal like this???????????????????????????How would he like to be treated the way he treated them poor dogs? And what happen to them when they lost! That is really a disgrace on the human race for letting this go on for years. If I was in charged I would let him see what it is like to have done to him what these poor dogs went through. They have feelings too.

You are confused. Vick is innocent until proven guilty as far as criminal activity and the formality of the law are concerned.
He does however answer to society as a whole as he is a “star” in the sports world, and thus a role model. Society has had enough of his antics and excuses.
He is a free man until he gets convicted…. but we are also free to boycott his employer and sponsors…. as we are doing.
He has a right to a free trial…. NOT to stardom and $130MM… the public can take that away. The court can (and will) take away his freedom.

The thing I find odd about all this.
It was completely concieveable that Wayne Gretzky didn’t know his wife, who lived in the same home as him, was part of a gambling ring. Wayne said he didn’t know, she said he didn’t know, and thats all there is to it. No one questioned it.
It was completely concieveable that Patrick Kerney had no idea that this group of people came in his house and one of them was rape by another. All while he was IN the house physically at the time of the attack. He said he was sleep and the police said the victim said he had nothing to do with it, and everything was just fine. No one questioned it.
But it is completely unconcieveable that Mike Vick could not know what was going on in a house thousands of miles away that he bought for a cousin. There is absolutely unbelieveable.
With Vick, they pretend that A: it was proven he gave some lady herpes because he setteled out of court. I guess that means Peyton manning is guilty of those sexual harrassment charges that got settled out of court…that never get talked about B: he was flipping off falcons fans. It was New Orleans fans in the Georgia dome. Get it right. Its not like he was flipping off home fans…like Jake Plummer did…but that never gets mentioned. C: He wasn’t proven innoccent in the water bottle incident. There were no drugs in the thing. That was proven. This is a fact. But they continually bring it up as instances of bad judgement or criminal judgement by Vick.
I don’t know if he is guilty or innocent. He says he is innoncent and I have no reason to believe that he isn’t as of now. If he is proved guilty, then kick him off the team, out the league for all I care.
But the sad thing is, if he is found innocent, no one is going to care. They have made him guilty in the media already and a innocent verdict will just still be looked at as “He just got away with it” by far to many people. Sadly I think he has played his last game as a Falcon, despite his innocence or guilt and that is sad.
When Kobe was charged with RAPE every story was someone talking about how Kobe could never do this, or the girl was obviously crazy, or how much of a strong person he was for being in court in Denver and playing a game the same day. The league was APPLAUDED for not suspending him, after he was indicted. On a RAPE charge. Vick has been called irresponsible for wanting to play through it, and people are applauding the commish and blank for suspending the guy when he is charged with dog fighting.
I think Dog fighting is bad. But you must understand that people feel differently about animals. Some people put animals and humans on the same level while others view an animals life as less than a humans. I will admit that I do not like and have never liked dogs. If I woke up and there was not a dog on the planet it would be a good day for me. But I’m tired of people acting as if not liking animals is some how wrong. I don’t mustard either is that wrong? I don’t like some people, is that wrong?
I am also tired of everyone acting as if a black man with cornrows and tattoos is a thug. People like Mike Vick and Allen Iverson are not thugs. Just because you are portrayed a certain way does not make you a thug. Most people would probably consider me a thug, but I am far from it. I’m bout to start my second year of law school, and I know plenty of people that are just like me. I don’t like it when people believe that because someone has cornrows or tattoos or because they might get into a little troubel that they are a thug. I know some real thugs and they are nothing like Vick, Iverson, or Jones.
